Be on the Floor – 8/31/24

I keep on thinking of ways to improve my overall feeling of being more loose and really utilizing the resistance of gravity in my day to day life. I have always thought yoga was a good way of exercising in terms of using your bodyweight as resistance and also working to improve flexibility through different positions. Being on the floor more is really an extension of being connected with gravity as opposed to using something to alter how we are positioned, for example a chair.

With being on the floor, this could be a hard floor, though it can be difficult on your joints, being on carpet, being on something more thick like a large yoga mat or a wrestling mat but just being in the position will give potential for exploring many other positions. You can do the crow pose, you can do handstands, you can move with your hip flexors, you can be squatting, you can do upside down pushups, you can do a floor L-set, and obviously many more. This is also a great break from the the computer if you’re able to work from home also.

It is a semi-common goal for office workers to meet around 10k steps for the day which is actually a pretty good goal to achieve and is realistic though requires some conscious effort. However, they are neglecting many different parts of their body and not utilizing all that their body has to offer and that is selling themselves short. So in general spending more time on the floor which you can do while watching your favorite show or indulge in a movie or music, you may see yourself naturally moving in many different ways and it will make you feel better and less stale.

I thought of this because I have been doing Jiu Jitsu and in many ways the better your able to move through the use of the floor and also your partner or competitor, then you will have a distinct advantage in the ability to utilize the force from the floor and that can be movement or strength related. In Jiu Jitsu you will learn many techniques and ways to moves, but you still have to practice strength, flexibility, mobility, strategy and more to be most effective. This is just an important aspect of flowing more easily through different positions. So you may want to be water, but first lets start on the floor.
